Louise Cherry

Biography

Based in Wicklow, artist Louise Cherry has exhibited nationally and internationally in solo and group shows. With a masters in Visual Arts Practice and a degree in both Photography and Business Studies Louise divides her time between her art practice, photography business and teaching.

Louise was a lecturer in photography at Dun Laoighaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) and with the Dublin City VEC for a number of years (2001- 09) before leaving to focus on her art practice and family. Since 2010 Louise has focused her teaching practice towards art with children and has recently set up ‘the art studio’: a dedicated art space for the education and enjoyment of art, especially among children. Louise is also principal director of Cherryphotography a commercial photography practice offering a high quality, creative service to a wide range of clients. Genres include: architecture, equine, food and lifestyle, portraiture and documentary.

Louise’s own artwork investigates the interplay between photography, performance, video, text, interview and sculpture. The relationship between and involvement of the audience with the work is critical to her installation explorations. Collaborative projects with other artists as well as with the audience play an integral role in Louise’s practice.
